The rhythm method is the act of abstaining from having sexual intercourse when the girl is having her menstrual cycle or when she thinks she is very fertile. Although it is one of the oldest practices of natural birth control and by far the best known from of fertility awareness, it is actually the most unreliable and the most dangerous method. It is based on three ideas which first would be that women would ovulate 14 days before the menstruation cycle begins and give or take it two days. The second is that the sperm would survive inside a woman for three days. Then lastly is that an egg can only be fertilized within the 24 hours of being released from the ovaries.

So based from these ideas above, it requires a woman to count back 14 days from the first day of her period. So within this time, they will have to abstain from sex or use some sort of contraceptive like condoms.

It does not apply to all women. There may be times that there will be a natural irregularity of their menstrual period and they won?t be able to calculate properly for that. If you thought that ovulation would always occur on the same day every month, you are dead wrong. The truth is it would change from time to time. This is why teenagers would have accidental pregnancies because it?s too early for their age to keep track.
Another issue is the belief of the sperm that can live inside the woman for three days. Actually, there have been findings that the sperm can even survive for almost a week. So it would be really necessary to avoid having sex for at least one week to when the woman believe she is ovulating.
Last would be it can?t protect you from having STDs or sexually transmitted diseases. You didn?t use protection then there is a great chance you will have STDs for that. If you think you have STDs and you can?t resist the temptation for sex, you just have to have to wear a condom for protection.

There are event charts which record the chances of getting pregnant while using this kind of method. If you are a typical user, you?ll have 25% of a chance that you?re partner will get pregnant. If you are a perfect user though and can keep track always, you have a chance of even a 1 to 9%.
