Suspected sectarian attack in Pakistan kills 13 (Reuters)
QUETTA, Pakistan (Reuters) ? At least 13 people were shot dead by gunmen in a suspected sectarian attack on a passenger bus in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province on Tuesday, the second such attack in just over two weeks.
The attackers, who were said by police to have arrived in a pickup truck, intercepted the bus on the outskirts of the provincial capital of Quetta. Five people were wounded.
"After intercepting the bus, four to five gunmen went in to the bus and opened fire and then fled," senior police Hamid Shakeel told Reuters.
The bus was carrying mostly Shi'ite Muslims from the Hazara community, who were returning from Quetta.
One of the wounded men, Hussain, however told Reuters from the hospital that about 45 minutes outside of Quetta, two men already on the bus ordered the driver to stop and started shooting.
Ten people were killed on the spot while three died at a hospital. There were about 20 people on the bus.
The wounded were driven to a hospital in the brightly painted bus, where protesters enraged by the attack, set it on fire after it was emptied of passengers, according to Geo TV, a private Pakistani television channel.
Video from the scene showed the bus with bullet holes in the front windshield, smoke pouring out of its sides and dozens of men milling around.
"Our government, our law enforcement agencies have left us at the mercy of these barbarians," Abdul Khaliq, a leader of the Hazara Democratic Party, told Geo television.
Sunni Muslims militants loyal to al Qaeda and the Taliban regularly carry out attacks on members of Pakistan's Shi'ite minority. They have stepped up attacks in recent months.
A similar attack on September 20 killed at least 26 Shi'ite pilgrims in Mastung district while they were on their way to Iran.
No one claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attack.
Pakistan has seen a surge in violence since al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. special forces in a secret raid in a Pakistani town in May.
Militants have vowed revenge for bin Laden's death.
Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims have a rivalry going back almost 1,400 years, when Islam split over the successor to the Prophet Mohammad.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Rocker Gene Simmons and his longtime girlfriend, actress Shannon Tweed, have tied the knot.
Publicist Dawn Miller offered her congratulations to "the new married couple" on Facebook.
Simmons and Tweed have been a couple for years. Their engagement announcement last month surprised many fans.
People magazine reported the couple exchanged vows they wrote themselves. The magazine said about 400 guests attended the Saturday evening ceremony outside a Beverly Hills hotel.
The 62-year-old Kiss bassist and the 54-year-old Tweed have two children.
The new season of the reality show "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" premieres Tuesday on the A&E network.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend a ?Leadership Forward? put on by Half Full at The Gant in Aspen, Colorado. The event, which was co-facilitated by Aron Ralston, of 127 Hours fame, at this amazing venue, brought together a diverse group of executives including several representatives from the snowboard industry, Unity?s James Binette and Neu Production Founder John Roderick.
Half Full Owner Rebecca Twitchell calls the events ?Forwards? versus ?Retreats? as they?re all about moving, well, forward in your leadership abilities, vision, mission, and strategic planning. While the age old debate over whether leadership can be taught rages on, the fact is that having the tools to set a sturdy course of action and develop and stay focused on a coherent strategy is paramount to successfully running a business, and even a life.
With an intimate group of? attendees, including Mario, a 16 year-old Glenwood Springs sophomore who is in the process of getting a prosthetic arm similar to Ralston?s, we focused on creating a strategy for our individual businesses and developing ways to overcome the obstacles to achieve them in a way that anyone in the industry can relate to - by getting gnarly. After a day in the classroom we headed to Independence Pass to work the metaphor of leadership into rock climbing with Ralston. A far cry from the clich? trust falls of many retreats, moving forward up the rocks shone a spotlight on the necessity of teamwork, trust, and following through to achieve your goals.
The biggest lessons of the weekend for my business were realizing just how important it is to remove yourself from the day-to-day routine and step back and take the long view of where you, your team, and your brand are heading. It?s far too easy to get caught up in the business of running your business, and lose sight of where you?re running it. Without course corrections, you often wind up heading where you originally intended, but that location, as a goal, has changed over time, leaving you in entirely the wrong spot.
That said, strategic planning can often be a daunting task for organizations without solid tools for breaking down a huge process into manageable pieces, evaluating the soundness of each, and moving forward in a way that sets measurable short, medium, and long term goals. The Forward was a great opportunity to step back and take a look at our brand?s direction, an absolutely necessary task in the current economic playground, and take a closer look at whether our current strategy makes sense and will get us where we need to be.
