MLB players Ortiz and Gregg begin serving suspensions (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz and Baltimore Orioles pitcher Kevin Gregg began serving three-game suspensions on Monday after their initial bans were reduced by a game, the two teams said.

The two players were originally suspended four games and handed undisclosed fines by Major League Baseball for inciting the benches to clear on two occasions during a July 8 game in Boston's Fenway Park. After consecutive pitches inside to Ortiz, the Red Sox slugger pointed at Gregg and words were exchanged as the two benches cleared briefly before order was restored.

Ortiz flew out on the next pitch and Gregg shouted at him. Ortiz then charged and met Gregg halfway between the mound and first base line where they swung a few punches and the benches cleared again. Both players were able to keep playing as their suspensions were being appealed but each were out of their team's lineups on Monday after having the bans and initial fine reduced. The Red Sox are in Baltimore on Monday to open a three-game set against the Orioles.

Younger sister with stage 4 breast cancer?My younger sister recently underwent a bilateral mastectomy for the breast cancer she has been battling for almost a year. She was stage 4 at the initial diagnosis and is 21 years old. I am 27. I have been having a lot of guilt issues lately. I do all that I can for her but still feel that it isn?t enough. I feel guilt because my fiance and I are having a child. I feel like I cannot truly be happy knowing that she is going through so much. I cry and our family cries all the time when we aren?t around her. She has insisted on living life on her terms! Which I so admire. She lives with her fiance and works part-time as a graphic designer. I just never knew how strong my little sister is! I never knew how tough! I am just sickened by what this disease can do and how difficult it is to handle when it sneaks up on a young woman. Why isn?t there more awareness for young women? Why hasn?t a cure been found? Why is our health-care system so screwed? What can I do for her to show her how much she really means to me without bombarding her? What gifts? What to say? What encouragement? People fall back on religion during times like these and say that G-d won?t give you anymore than you can handle or that He works in mysterious ways?I just don?t see the reason to any of this. Can you imagine being 21 and breastless and not knowing if you will ever bear children or live normally or for how long? I love her so much! And it is tearing our family apart. Any advice? Words of wisdom to those who have been through it? I just have so much guilt and don?t know how to function normally when I am not around her?we haven?t been give a prognosis at all and I am full of hope that we are soon going to find a cure for cancer. I F*#CKING hate cancer. PS: is there any help for student loans for a person diagnosed with stage 4 cancer? I want to help alleviate some of her worries at least?

My father has stage four lung cancer. I know how you feel. Cancer is so sh!tty.
She?s going through a lot right now. But you should try to treat her normally as best as you can and stay positive! Don?t act like she?s on her deathbed, or she?ll start to think she is and might not survive the fight. Make sure she knows how much everybody loves her, and that you?ll help her in any way possible. Take her out to dinner because once she starts chemo, if that?s what they decide to do, she won?t feel like eating too much. Buy her a pair of slippers and a nice robe, that?s what my dad lounges around in these days. Get her a cute little teddy bear. Offer to go to appointments with her, and educate yourself on everything breast cancer. Always, always be a shoulder to cry on when she needs it. Maybe you could turn your helplessness into helping other women get awareness?

As for her student loans, the American Cancer Society helps my parents pay their bills. They might help with the loans. The website is below, and worth checking out at any rate.

Learn about your sister?s condition, treatment options, and prognosis. Your family has a tough road ahead and information is your best tool. Your sister?s oncologist is the best person to provide answers. Attached below is a link to the Merck Manual?s chapter on breast cancer. It is an authoritative guide to the illness.

Your sister needs to think about her health insurance status, as expenses will become quite substantial. If she does not have sufficient health insurance coverage, then now is the time to apply for Medicaid or other government programs. Contact your state?s Department of Heath and/or talk with her hospital?s billing department to get pointed in the right direction.

The American Cancer Society is a wonderful resource for just about everything now impacting your sister. They have excellent information on their website and offer a variety of programs. Gilda?s Club, named after the late comedian Gilda Radner, is a great support network for cancer patients. (links below)

Jackson Hole?s record snows this season are good for more than skiing: The largest sled dog race in the lower 48 states, the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race (IPSSSDR), mushes out of Jackson, Wyoming, on January 28, 2011. Twenty-two teams, including sled dog racing?s current distance and sprint champions, will leave the starting line in Jackson?s Town Square at 6:30 p.m. Visitors enjoy the excitement of the race start, fireworks and even a free Pedigree-sponsored party in Jackson before the race continues through 11 Wyoming communities with down-home activities leading to the big Park City, Utah, finish on February 5.

Eleven newcomers or rookies to the IPSSSDR will race this year. Eight teams come from outside the U.S., with teams from Canada, including British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Northwest Territories, as well as Sweden and Jamaica. Five teams this year will be driven by women. The youngest musher is 19 and the oldest, 60.

Communities on the race route host various festivities to welcome mushers and dogs as they speed through town, offering Dutch oven dinners, flapjack frenzies and musher mania events that include a human sled dog race and snowshoe softball. Participating communities in addition to Jackson and Park City include Lander, Pinedale, Cora, Big Piney, Marbleton, Alpine, Kemmerer, Diamondville, Evanston, Mountain View and Lyman in Wyoming.

Apple considering TSMC mobile chips?

We hope you're ready for a heaping helping of Apple speculation, because Reuters is serving up a nice big slice of rumor pie today. According to the ever-present "source with knowledge of the matter," Taiwanese chipmaker, TSMC is gearing up to supply Apple with its next generation mobile processors. According to the apparently credible anonymous source, TSMC has already begun trial manufacturing on the chips and "has got all the authorization and details ready." As you may already know, Apple's current supplier of its A5 CPU is Samsung, and relations between the two have been rocky (at least in court). This round of speculation also comes just one year after TSMC began construction on its new $9.3 billion foundry, and teamed up with ARM -- the brains behind the A5. Of course all parties have declined to comment, which lands this report squarely in the grapevine for now, but we'll keep you posted if it winds its way into reality.
