Celebrate Canada's food, farmers, chefs and home cooks on Food Day Canada

TORONTO -- Hundreds of chefs and home cooks across the country are expected to showcase Canuck ingredients this Saturday as they celebrate Food Day Canada.

The event, which food writer Anita Stewart started nine years ago as a reaction to the BSE crisis, is set to feature 275 restaurants serving up menus with a distinct Canadian flavour.

?They know the ingredients that they?re using, they know their suppliers and whatever they do is fine by me as long as we have one day that Canadians cannot ignore the fact that we?ve got marvellous ingredients here and some of the top culinary talent on the planet,? said Stewart, author or co-author of 14 books.

?When we started to write about Canadian cuisine it was an oxymoron and restaurants were judging themselves as fabulous by how much they could bring from how far away and now it?s exactly the opposite.?

This weekend?s celebration, said Stewart, won?t be confined to restaurants. She?s also urging participants to create their own spreads from produce bought at a roadside stand or farmers? market. Such meals don?t have to be served in traditional environs, adds Stewart, suggesting they could be cooked over a campfire, or served at a potluck in a park.

Menus and stories can be posted on the Food Day Canada website.

Many professional chefs, meanwhile, have plans of their own.

Chef Steve Watson of Central Dairy in St. John?s, N.L., expects to welcome Food Day Canada at midnight Friday from Signal Hill in his role as Town Crier for Mount Pearl, southwest of St. John?s.

Stewart plans to be in Prince Edward Island with chef Michael Smith, host of the Food Network Canada shows ?Chef Abroad? and ?Chef at Home,? and the winners of Love Your Lentils Canada, a contest sponsored by Food Day Canada and Canadian Lentils. Canadians were given the opportunity to vote online for their favourite lentil recipes created by 25 Canadian chefs.

Chef Norman Aitken from Juniper Kitchen and Wine Bar in Ottawa was singled out for his lentil wild mushroom ravioli while chef Charles Part from Les Fougeres in Chelsea, Que., was recognized for a beluga lentil burger. Vanessa Leggett of Mississauga, Ont., won a random draw and will join the culinary adventure.

?We?ll be touring Prince Edward Island with Michael, foraging and gathering ingredients, and then we?ll be cooking a meal, a Food Day Canada celebration, on the dock at The Inn at Bay Fortune,? said Stewart, who was named a Member of the Order of Canada in the spring for her contributions as a journalist, author and culinary activist.

The Food Day Canada interactive website features a map with the locations of farmers markets and Food Day restaurants across the country. People can pin the location of their own event on it as well as post their menus or describe their Food Day plans.

The University of Guelph, which houses the largest Canadian cookbook collection, will present an award for the most innovative menu based on Canadian ingredients.

Food Day Canada, originally called The World?s Longest Barbecue, was launched by Stewart during the height of the BSE crisis in 2003, when Canadian beef exports were sanctioned after mad cow disease, or bovine spongiform encephalopathy, was discovered in Alberta and threatened the livelihood of Canada?s beef producers. She encouraged colleagues and home cooks across the country to barbecue Canadian beef at 6 p.m. in their time zone.

The time element has been removed, but Stewart still asks Canadians to celebrate the producers of Canada on the same day across the country.

?Every year until 2010 I did basically the same thing and it was publicly driven,? Stewart explained in a telephone interview from Elora, Ont. ?It had very little restaurant participation and then I started to realize I?ve got this huge resource of restaurants and chefs that I know. Why not tap into that??

Now she has endorsed restaurants from such far-flung locations as Tofino, B.C., home of the Pointe Restaurant at the Wickaninnish Inn on the Pacific Ocean, the most westerly participant, to Lighthouse Picnics in Ferryland, N.L., Food Day?s most easterly participant, and four northern locations in Yukon.

?The pendulum has swung so dramatically in the way of regional local food that people are really excited about what they can do and it?s a way of differentiating themselves from everywhere else,? she said.

?It gives the restaurant goer an opportunity to get a sense of place and that to me is what it?s all about."

BB&T and SunTrust have sights set on buying Florida foreclosures

SunTrust and BB&T are looking to buy several foreclosure properties in Florida.

BB&T Corp. and SunTrust Bank, both banks with a significant presence in Charlotte, have their sights set on seizing several properties in Florida that are in foreclosure, the South Florida Business Journal reports.

BB&T is attempting to seize 19 industrial/office condos in Miami. The Winston-Salem-based bank (NYSE:BBT) filed a foreclosure lawsuit on July 25 against RG Investment Enterprises and managing member Recaredo Gutierrez. It concerns a mortgage issued for $7.9 million in 2007. The lawsuit also names James F. Perry & Co., which has a $1 million second mortgage on the property.

Eairlier this month, Atlanta-based SunTrust (NYSE:STI) filed two related lawsuits aimed at taking control of 18 home sites throughout Miami-Dade. Owners Citywide Development Corp. and Better Homes Development Corp. had their mortgages with SunTrust modified in December at $1.7 million and $1 million, respectively.

BB&T with $370 million in deposits and SunTrust with $1.8 billion in local deposits are the tenth and fourth-largest banks in Northeast Florida. BB&T has 14 branches in the area and as SunTrust has 30 local branches.

Changes in Online Video Marketing Strategies

?

As the online and offline worlds con?tinue to evolve and inter?act, mar?keters con?tinue to seek advice and data to ratio?nal?ize the choices they make about what kind of con?tent to pop?u?late their web?sites with. ?When con?sid?er?ing online video mar?ket?ing for your busi?ness, review the evi?dence below, that shows you can increase sales and con?ver?sion rates, drive more traf?fic to your site, reduce ser?vic?ing costs, make a?strong con?nec?tion between on and offline mar?ket?ing efforts, and per?haps most impor?tantly, build long-??term rela?tion?ships with your cus?tomers. ?That said, one caveat to a?suc?cess?ful online media strat?egy is that qual?ity of con?tent and strate?gic deploy?ment of online video mar?ket?ing material.

Online Video Mar?ket?ing: Qual?ity Matters

  • Video pro?duced by a?pro?fes?sional ad agency, and opti?mized cor?rectly dri?ves 30% more traf?fic than user-??generated video (Source:?Com?score).

Increase Your Con?ver?sion Rate & Rev?enue Per?Sale

  • Web?site vis?i?tors who review prod?uct and ser?vice infor?ma?tional videos dur?ing the course of their visit are 85% more likely to make a?pur?chase than vis?i?tors who do not encounter video con?tent (Source:?Inter?net Retailer).
  • Major Inter?net retail?ers and ser?vice providers report con?ver?sion rate increases from 6???44% for prod?ucts that are sup?ported by online video infor?ma?tion (Source:?ReelSEO).
  • A recent Inter?net Retailer study showed that 52% of online shop?pers said they feel more con?fi?dent about mak?ing a?pur?chase after watch?ing a?video about prod?ucts they are con?sid?er?ing. ?When a?video is pre?sented prop?erly, and con?tains the appro?pri?ate amount of infor?ma?tion, over two-??thirds of con?sumers will watch a?video twice.
  • Retail sites with video increase the aver?age sale rev?enue by 13% (Source:?L2 Spe?cialty Retail Report).

Drive More Traf?fic To Your Site With Online Video Marketing

  • When opti?mized cor?rectly, video con?tent increases the like?li?hood of a?first page Google search result by 53 times (Source:?For?rester).
  • Video con?tent search results appear in 70% of the top 100 list?ings, which are the most com?monly dis?played results for uni?ver?sal or blended queries (Source:?Mar?ket?ing?week).

Reduce Cus?tomer Ser?vice?Costs

  • Major online brands includ?ing Dell and Vir?gin Mobile report a?reduc?tion in ser?vice call vol?ume by 5???10% as a?result of incor?po?rat?ing instruc?tional, and prod?uct infor?ma?tion videos on their web?sites (Source:?The Aus?tralian).
  • Online retail?ers have also found that strate?gi?cally adding online video to sup?port prod?ucts has reduced prod?uct returns at a?rate between 10???25% (Source:?Inter?net Retailer).

Con?nect The Offline World With The Online World

  • Lead?ing CPG firms have found that online video cor?re?lates with a?6% increase in brick-??and-??mortar store sales (Source:?Nielsen).
  • Online video makes up approx?i?mately 50% of all smart?phone traf?fic, and nearly 70% of traf?fic on cer?tain provider net?works (Source:?Google).
  • 80% of mobile device users employ their devices to help make pur?chase deci?sions, and at 74%, nearly all of them make a?pur?chase as a?result (Source:?Google).
  • Nearly 50% of online shop?pers in the United States con?ducted research on prod?ucts or ser?vices in store, or on loca?tion, before return?ing to home or work to make a?pur?chase online (Source:?eMar?keter).

Build Rela?tion?ships With Your Customers

  • Online video mar?ket?ing com?po?nents drive increased pur?chase intent by nearly 1.25%, and are more than four time more effec?tive than Flash con?tent (Source:?Dou?bleClick)
  • View?ers favored a?brand 2% more when exposed to online video ads, as opposed to just 0.15% for ads with just Flash ani?ma?tion (Source:?Dou?bleClick)
  • Con?sumers are increas?ingly cor?re?lat?ing their expec?ta?tions for online shop?ping expe?ri?ences with that of their expe?ri?ence in brick-??and-??mortar stores. ?Oppor?tu?ni?ties to build brand affin?ity, and cus?tomer loy?alty online with online video are increas?ingly impor?tant to the suc?cess of on and offline busi?ness models.

Use Video To Gen?er?ate Social Media?Buzz

  • 46% of online shop?pers share videos from retail and brand sites via Face?book, 40% by email, and 14% by Twitter.

Mississippi church refuses to marry black couple

They had booked their wedding far in advance. The invitations had been sent, the programs printed. But one day before Charles and Te'Andrea Wilson were to be married at the Mississippi church they frequented, they said a pastor told them they would have to find another venue -- because they were black.

There has never been a black wedding at the First Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, Miss., since its founding in 1883. According to Pastor Stan Weatherford, some church members objected so strongly to breaking that precedent, they threatened to oust him from his pastorship.

Rather than risk his job, Weatherford, who is white, said he decided to marry the pair at a black church down the road.

"My 9-year-old was going to the church with us. How would you say to your 9-year-old daughter, 'We cannot get married here because, guess what sweetie, we're black,'" Charles Wilson told ABC's affiliate WAPT-TV.

Outrage over the wedding's forced relocation swept the Jackson suburb of about 5,000 into a media firestorm.

The vast majority of Crystal Springs residents, blacks and whites alike, were "blown away" by the church's decision, said Theresa Norwood, 48, who was born in Crystal Springs and has lived there her entire life.

Norwood said she believes Weatherford should have married the Wilsons regardless of the risk to his job.

"That church was their home," she said. "What would Jesus have done? He would have married them, without a doubt, because it's the right thing to do. We're all God's children."

While the Wilsons were not members of the church, they often attended services there, and Te'Andrea's uncle is an employee of the church, and her father is a member. Charles Wilson told WAPT that the couple had planned to join as members after their wedding, which was held July 20.

Weatherford told WLBT-TV in Jackson that he would have liked to marry the couple as planned, but he decided to perform the ceremony elsewhere as a compromise to ensure that the Wilsons could be married while "addressing a need within our congregation."

Norwood, who is black, said her nephew came to worship at First Baptist Church while he was temporarily living with her, having been evacuated from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The church "made him feel at home," she said, but now she wonders whether he would return there when he visits Crystal Springs.

The church is now holding internal meetings to figure out how it should respond to future requests by black couples to be married there, Weatherford told WLBT-TV.

For her part, though, Norwood, who is dating a white man, said that if she and her boyfriend decide to get married, they will likely look for a different venue.

___

IT WASN'T TO BE

The excitement near the road course finish line outside the palace fell flat as Great Britain and favorite Mark Cavendish failed to win a medal.

"I was there when he didn't win it!" shouted Richard Jones of London.

He'd been watching the race on television with his wife and another couple when they decided with an hour to go to hustle over to Buckingham Palace for the finish.

"We practically did a triathlon to get here," said Jane Carson of Chester. "And we didn't even get very close ? but neither did Cav."

STAG DO

A rowing regatta isn't the usual place to start a bachelor party.

It worked out just fine for husband-to-be Martin Stanning, though, as he watched sister Heather romp to victory in the women's pair with partner Helen Glover at Dorney Lake? setting a Olympic best time in the process.

Martin was under orders in the "stag do" ? as it's called in Britain ? from his older brother Alistair, who was organizer-in-chief. His parents were there, too.

Glover and Stanning are big favorites to win the final of the women's pair on Wednesday after going through this season unbeaten. If they win gold, they'll become the first British women to do so.

HOT VENUE

Although the ExCel venue is well south of the Olympic Park, the venue is shaping up as a surprisingly good place to catch the Olympic spirit.

ExCel is hosting boxing, weightlifting, judo, fencing and table tennis in separate spaces, but the sprawling complex is connected by a central hall that has turned into a pedestrian mall where the combined crowd can mingle amid a large array of dining options.

With thousands of fans pouring off trains Saturday, ExCel had a remarkable vibe as each of its sports except wrestling got underway. The venue's only obvious flaw is a lack of seating in that central hall, where hundreds of people are just sitting on the ground to eat their baked potatoes and curries.

HERE COMES THE SUN

Another day in often-soggy London, another healthy dose of blue skies and bright sunshine. With a cool breeze blowing gently, it's hard to imagine a better start to these games from a weather perspective.

How did we get so lucky? Maybe Sir Paul asked John and George to put in a good word for a little help from above.

GYM INTRIGUE

There's intrigue at the men's gymnastics.

China, which hasn't lost a major competition since the 2004 Olympics, is already second after a dismal performance this morning.

The U.S. has got through its worst event ? pommel horse ? in decent shape while Japan, runner-up to China at both the Beijing Olympics and the last two world championships, had to count a fall on high bar, one of its better events.

OLYMPIC SPIRIT

Putting aside their rivalry here, football players from Brazil, Egypt, Belarus and New Zealand are sharing the same hotel in Manchester and are getting along just fine.

The Brazilian federation has posted photos of the teams playing table tennis together and says players from the four teams have been mingling in activities throughout the hotel. The teams are playing in Group C of the men's Olympic tournament.

SECOND BEST

Greg Munford, 31, applied for "loads" of tickets but didn't get a single one. "I was gutted," he says.

So he came from his home in the English city of Bath to London's Hyde Park, where thousands of people are sprawled on wood chips (the grass fell victim to a concert series and wet weather) watching five big screens showing everything from handball to cycling.

"If I can't get to the venues this is the second-best place to be," says Munford. "I'm soaking up the spirit." He admits he didn't understand much of the dressage on the screen, but offered: "It all looks very elegant!"

BUSTLING PARK

Tourist Time.

Olympic Park is hustling and bustling. The pathways are filled with foot traffic, the merchandise stores bursting with visitors.

Everyone appears to be getting the lay of the land, and the benches and tables appear to be very popular as folks grab a rest from all the walking.

___

CHAOS AT THE PALACE

There's chaos outside Buckingham Palace where the men's road course race will zoom by at the finish.

Thousands are surging toward the barricades, as security is imploring people to back up into Green Park or move further down the course.

Nobody wants to move, though, as everyone is eager to see Great Britain possibly win its first medal.

HIDDEN FLAME

It's a shame you can't see the Olympic flame. That was the reaction from visitors to London's Olympic Park and across Twitter on Saturday, as the intricate cauldron and its copper petals remained out of sight in the middle of the stadium.

All recent Olympics have featured a flaming cauldron, visible across the Olympic precinct.

But in London, only spectators lucky enough to have a ticket for events inside the main stadium will actually see it. Other park visitors will only be able to see an image beamed onto big screens.

At a news conference Saturday, cauldron creator Thomas Heatherwick defended the decision, saying organizers had tried to resist the temptation of creating a cauldron that was bigger, fatter or higher than at previous games.

"There was the complete precedent of the 1948 (London) Games of the cauldron set within the stadium... to one side with the spectators and with the technology we now have that didn't exist in 1948 it can be shared with everyone in the Park with screens," Heatherwick said.

The cauldron design was backed by the UK prime minister, but some members of the International Olympic Committee are said to be privately critical of the concept.

HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE

Seems even the queen can't resist the opportunity to act with Daniel Craig.

The British monarch didn't need much persuading to take part in the brief flick that electrified the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony, says Jackie Brock-Doyle, the spokeswoman for the organizing committee.

"She liked the whole concept Danny brought together," she says ? presumably right down to the detail of having the queen's corgis, Monty, Holly and Willow, similarly take starring roles.

The matter was presented to her majesty by organizing committee chairman Sebastian Coe last year.

CLOSE SHAVE

British gymnast Louis Smith knows a thing or two about making a statement. The eccentric 23-year-old ? the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist on pommel horse ? is known as much for his well-coiffed hair and elaborate tattoos as his elegant routines.

A couple of days before the biggest ? and perhaps final ? meet of his life, Smith slipped out of the Olympic village to his home in Peterborough to visit his barber.

"I could have used one in the village, but I didn't want to tell him he was doing it wrong," Smith said.

He returned with a distinctive do, with shaved sides and a meticulously groomed flowing flattop.

Smith says the "hip" cut is designed to grab the kind of attention he thinks the sport needs.

___

AN AMAECHI MOMENT

Strolling through security to enter Olympic Park, former British basketball star John Amaechi says he has been quite pleased with how his home country has opened these games.

The center paired with gymnast Nadia Comaneci to take the torch to the roof of the North Greenwich Arena earlier this month and is eager to see how Britain opens against powerful Russia in its men's basketball opener on Sunday.

"It's been wonderful so far, but the real work hasn't even started," Amaechi says. "That will tell the tale."

I SEE BY YOUR OUTFIT ...

Dressed head to toe in the British flag ? or, rather, AS the British flag ? Mick Burn wanted to find a spot along the road course to cheer cyclist Mark Cavendish.

But his outfit was so extreme, the man from Watford in Hertfortshire couldn't make it more than a few feet (meters) at a time without being stopped by fans wanting to pose for a picture with him.

"I've been mobbed all day," he says. And he's delighted by that fact.

It took him almost two years and 200 pounds (more than $300) to assemble the outfit, which consisted of everything from "posh golf pants," a waistcoat, his watch, eyeglasses and even his underwear. The toughest item was the sport coat, which cost him 50 pounds (about $75) on eBay.

Burn had thought his niece, rower Lucinda Gooderham, would be competing in these games. She didn't qualify, but he vowed to keep fine-tuning the outfit for Rio.

SMOOOOOOOOOOTH

"Louis Smith as smooth as strawberries and cream on pommel horse. It's like he's in slow motion, control in amazing." ? AP's Will Graves tweets from the gymnastics venue. A spectacular pommel horse by Britain's Smith capped the day for the British, who finished almost 2.5 points ahead of China with at a total of 272.420. Team finals are Monday.

On a Saturday lunchtime, London's main shopping area, Oxford Street should be packed. Saturday afternoon, it is surprisingly empty of the usual crowd of Londoners and tourists. BERLIN (AP) ? The leaders of Germany and France added their weight to the battle to preserve the European single currency when they issued a joint statement Friday promising to do everything they can to stop the 17-country bloc from breaking up.

The statement from Chancellor Angela Merkel and President Francois Hollande was brief and didn't spell out any specific course of action. But it offered a show of unity by the leaders of the eurozone's two biggest economies.

"Germany and France are deeply committed to the integrity of the eurozone," the two leaders said in their statement. "They are determined to do everything to protect the eurozone."

To achieve that, they added, eurozone members and European institutions "must comply with their obligations, each in their own area of competence."

The statement, made after a telephone conversation between the two leaders Friday, came a day after Mario Draghi, president of the European Central Bank, told business leaders in London that the ECB would do "whatever it takes" to preserve the euro and raised expectations that he could step in to lower the high borrowing costs that are crippling countries like Spain and Italy.

Concerns about the 17 countries that use the euro have intensified over the past few weeks as evidence builds that economies across the region face deepening recessions. Spain and Italy, in particular, are finding it increasingly expensive to raise money on the debt markets due to spiraling borrowing costs. Investors are losing confidence that the countries will be able to control their debt while they are in recession.

Fears have also resurfaced that bailed-out Greece might yet be forced out of the single currency if it fails to carry out reforms that were a condition of its financial rescue.

Merkel and Hollande underlined the need to "implement quickly" decisions made by a European Union summit last month.

Those decisions included allowing Europe's bailout fund ? once a new, independent bank supervisor is set up ? to give money directly to a country's banks, rather than via the government. Countries that pledge to implement reforms demanded by the European Union's executive Commission also would be able to tap rescue funds without having to go through the kind of tough austerity measures demanded of Greece, Portugal and Ireland.

Markets across Europe rose following the statement with the FTSE 100 up 0.7 per cent and Germany's DAX index up 1.1 percent. In Spain, the main IBEX stock index was up 2.7 per cent while the borrowing rate on its 10-year bond ? a bellwether of market confidence in a country's ability to manage its debt ? was down to 6.73 percent. In Italy, the FTSE MIB stock index had risen 2.7 percent and its 10-year bond's interest rate was had fallen to 5.95 percent.

European finance ministers last week signed a rescue package worth up to ?100 billion ($122 billion) for Spain's ailing banks, but concern flared about Spain's prolonged recession and the debts of its regions, causing the country's borrowing costs to rise.

Merkel and Hollande made no specific reference to the ECB's role in helping solve the crisis, but Merkel's finance minister earlier Friday welcomed the remarks Draghi made. The comments have raised expectations that the ECB could step in to lower high borrowing costs ? possibly by buying government bonds.

The ECB has bought bonds to fight the crisis over the past two years, but has kept the program on hold for months. The bond purchases weren't popular in Germany, which feared the ECB was taking on excessive risk and argued that governments should bear the responsibility of restoring confidence in their economies by reducing public debt and reforming their labor markets.

Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble welcomes Draghi's pledge to "take the necessary measures to secure the euro in the framework of the existing ECB mandate," a ministry statement said. It didn't say anything about what those measures could be.

"The condition for this is that policymakers also take and implement the necessary measures to deal with the financial and confidence crisis," it added. "In the first place stand the reform efforts of the countries themselves."

Merkel and Sarkozy frequently issued joint declarations on the eurozone crisis, but the conservative German chancellor and the Socialist Hollande initially appeared at odds over how to handle it. Hollande has been critical of Germany's focus on painful austerity measures and called for a greater emphasis on growth.

Still, the pair has stressed the need for Germany and France to work together, and last month's summit featured an agreement on a package meant to encourage growth.

Absa sees R190 mln revenue decline from rate cut

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - Absa Group will likely see a 190 million rand decline in revenue as a result of the latest rate cut by South Africa's central bank, its chief financial officer said on Friday.

The South African Reserve Bank cut its benchmark rate by 50 basis points this month, citing concerns about weakness in Africa's top economy.

"If you look at what just happened with the interest rate cut, for example with the 50 basis points, although we hedge, that will still cost us around 190 million rand in revenue," David Hodnett told reporters on a conference call.

Absa, South Africa's third-largest bank, is majority owned by Barclays

SEO ? The Key to Online Business Success

This article has been viewed 11 times.

Issues launched your own internet site and haven?t specifically been generating business, you may be wondering about having less business you?re receiving.
There?s only one reason for this: zero on the web presence.

You can have the coolest site on the internet and hold the best products or companies, but if no one can discover your site, the work you?ve put in it is useless.

So, how do you you could make your online presence recognized? There?s just one answer: SEO, otherwise known as search engine optimization. There are numerous of ways to get your site on search results; listed below are a couple of them.

. Keywords and phrases
Keywords are terms a person types in a very search bar to get certain information, and the most important element of ranking.
With no keywords, your business might be non-existent. It?s a good idea to work with specific keywords which are the most appropriate for your area of interest. Let?s say your site specializes in selling gadgets for example phones, tabs, mp4s and many others.

Don?t use broad terms like ?gadgets?, ?phones? ?tabs?, instead utilize more specific words like ?cheap Samsung Galaxy S-3.? Keywords can be put anywhere on your web page, but for search engines, the most crucial part of your page is the blue tavern at the top of your webpage. So, you might want to be certain to put your keywords generally there.

. SEO Articles
SEO articles alter from normal articles because they are written around key phrases and have particular measures. SEO articles are widely read because these offer details and useful tips in different subjects.

If you write an SEO write-up around your site?s keywords and when clicked on, you?ll be able to generate several web traffic.

Therefore, you?ll have better chances in getting a few business. Using keywords and phrases just once in an write-up is good, but a 2%-3% keyword density post would be better- a keyword in the title, system, and another in the summary.

You can write basically whatever you want providing you put in your keywords somewhere inside your article.

Keep in mind however that whatever you create, it still has to make sense because humans are going to read them.

Keywords and phrases and SEO articles are just two ways to get your website on search results. However, if you would like to be near the top of search engine lists, you could look at hiring a good SEO agency to make your site recognized to all.

Indian Tribes Draft Online Gaming Bill

Indian Affairs Logo

After days of speculation, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee has revealed their initial draft of a bill that would make online Indian gaming legal in the United States.? Entitled the Tribal Online Gaming Act of 2012, the 49-page bill has not been officially introduced into the Senate but rather is currently a discussion draft.

The bill early on points out how that Indian gaming provides 40 percent of all gaming in the US and that any legalization of online poker at the federal level must have positive economic benefits to the tribes.? The act is intended to legalize tribal gaming only and is not a total federal solution.

One interesting note is that the bill names the Secretary of Commerce as the one that will be in charge of overseeing and regulating tribal gaming and an Office of Tribal Online Gaming will be setup to help with regulation.

Section 6 of the bill deals with the issuing of tribal gaming licenses. ?Per the bill, the Secretary of Commerce will be able to issue licenses to individual tribes, consortium of tribes, and partnerships between consortium?s or tribes and non-tribal entities.? Any tribe that has not opted out can apply for a license and the tribes can only offer games within the United States and to people located within the US.

The bill also addresses they typical matters you would expect of any online gaming bill such as defining who services can be offered to and penalties that tribes can receive should they act improperly after being licensed.? Those penalties range from fines up to license revocation.? In addition, the bill also spells out that the revenues from online gaming may not be tax and the revenues may only be used for tribal government functions.

This bill will not supersede or replace any agreements that tribes currently have and it will not prevent them from making future compacts with states.? Applications fees were not revealed in the bill but it was stated that the Secretary of Commerce will determine those fees.? In addition, a revenue sharing clause has been created in the bill that will see 1% of revenues by tribes deposited into an account with the Department of Treasury and on October 1st of each year, that money will be distributed to tribes that choose to opt-out of the bill.

As stated earlier, this bill is currently in discussion draft phase only.? It will likely go through multiple revisions before a final bill is submitted or voted upon, but it is definitely a great first step for tribes in their quest for fair access to online gaming in the United States.

The carbon tax: insurance against climate change? | JunkScience.com

Only if you think paying many multiples of the insured risk in annual premiums is a form of insurance. In fact it is simply a straight cost with no benefit. The insurance analogy is one of the most stupid ploys in the warmists? arsenal and boy, it faces some stiff competition for such a title.

Cutting greenhouse gas emissions is like buying an insurance policy: we incur a cost to reduce a risk. Every year Australians spend millions on insuring homes, cars and their health, not because they know that something will happen to them, but because of the risk that it might. Households make the decision that insurance premiums are worth paying. As a nation, what premium do we pay for insurance against catastrophic climate change?

Nano Patents and Innovations: 9 Health And Fitness Fads That ...

Everyone wants to shed a few pounds, and most people do so during several phases of life. Health and fitness fads will, by nature, come and go, but a few of them stand the test of time. Diet supplements have been used to regulate weight as far back as ancient Egypt, Greece, and China. Portion control was practiced by ancient cultures, as well. If you?re always trying the Next Big Thing, here are nine health and fitness fads that came and stayed. Some we love, some we hate, but one thing?s for sure ? these nine fads are older than you.

  1. Counting Calories

It?s so popular because it?s simple math: calories in should be less than calories out. Even a?nutrition professor?at Kansas State proved that weight loss was possible on a diet consisting solely of Twinkies. He did it by counting calories. Some gurus will argue that not all calories are created equal, but elementary math will prove them wrong by the scales.
  2. Plastic Surgery

Definitely a fad and not quite healthy, cosmetic surgery is a fast way to fake fitness. Plastic surgery, first introduced in 1827, is more common now than ever. It might be an extreme way to get a beach body, but more than?200,000 people had liposuction in 2010. Proper diet and exercise may be the true way to health, but cosmetic surgery is certainly en vogue. If you want to live a long life, be healthy. But if you want to look a certain way, countless numbers of people have made a similar choice.
  3. Exercising

Exercise is one health fad that should never go out of style, and group exercise has been popular for ages. Boot camps especially are enjoying a renaissance ? both in-home and at the gym. Boot camp offers a quick, regimented way to shape up, and one that?s segmented to increase viability and impact. After a dip in popularity, in-home boot camps have become popular again with the rise ofP90X?and similar plyometrics programs.
  4. Portion Controlled Meals

Portion controlled meals have become and remained popular for generations of dieting divas. If there?s one thing that guarantees weight loss, it?s not overeating ? and buying pre-portioned meals has long been a crutch of dieters and fitness freaks everywhere. In America especially, portion sizes are routinely too large, and sticking to a smaller-plated plan has always helped to tighten the belt.

  5. Vibrating Belts

Speaking of belts, this relic from the 1960s may seem long gone, but the vibrating belt has come back in?infomercial-tastic ways?in the recent past. While we hate this fad and everything it stands for, it might actually tone you up a little. That being said, if you?re so lazy that you want to pay to use a vibrating belt to move your muscles for you, there are many life decisions you need to structurally re-think. Many.
  6. Working Out At Home

Aerobics classes as we know them may have started in 1968, but Jane Fonda?s the one that made aerobic exercise popular from the privacy of one?s own home. Although you can sign up for gym classes and aerobics all that you want, there are a plethora of television channels and work out DVDs that are available for purchase. You can work out at home in an indoor gym like the perennially popular?Bowflex, or you can be instructed by any number of videos. Whether it?s Pilates, yoga, or Tae Bo, working out in the comfort and privacy of your own home is a fad that?s here to stay. Spandex and leg warmers optional.
  7. VLCDs

Very Low Calorie Diets are a long-time fad that remains popular. Food intake restrictions, all-liquid diets, and cabbage soup are among the things you?ll come across when researching VLCDs. Raw food or low-carb diets can also fit this description, and VLCDs remain popular due to promises of quick weight loss. Whether it?s powdered shakes or a Master Cleanse, these fad diets make their way into the limelight at least once per generation. VLCDs can be extremely detrimental to some, but can jumpstart healthy weight loss in others. As they are a mild form of starvation, some form of weight loss is all but guaranteed.

  8. Diet Pills

Even though they?re dangerous, they?re always around in some form. Upon learning that?Fen Phen?was dangerous in the ?90s, diet pills have been different (but the same) ever since. They range from ephedra (now illegal), called "trucker speed," to fat and carb blockers. It?s hard to imagine a world without celebrity endorsements of hoodia, guarana, and other proprietary blends. Word to the wise? There?s no magic pill. If it didn?t work for Alice or those guys from? The Matrix, it won?t work for you. Try something else, and don?t be so gullible and desperate next time.
  9. Cleansing and Juicing

Cleansing and juicing can be a form of fasting and/or a form of detox. While?Jack LaLanne?s Power Juicer?used to rule the airwaves, now we see ads for the Master Cleanse and Omega. Although things change, they often stay the same ? and these fads have been popular with celebrities and yo-yo dieters for years. The raw food and slow food movements have seen a resurgence of interest in fresh juicing, but making living food has been marketed and repackaged as a diet solution more often than not. While detoxification and health do go hand in hand, the use of detox as a diet plan has been a slow-dying fad.

Compensation controversy over 'Adriatic Alcatraz'

(AP) ? It rises up from the pristine waters off Croatia's coast, a forbidding mound of rock known as the Adriatic Alcatraz.

The amount former political prisoners are being offered for each day they spent on this hell: $9.

The paltry compensation Serbia's government is granting people imprisoned by late Yugoslav dictator Josip Broz Tito in one of Europe's most notorious post-World War II labor camps has triggered outrage among many ? and threats of a lawsuit.

"It's miserable," said Bozdar Vulovic, one of the few living survivors of the Goli Otok, or Barren Island, camp that was created in 1948.

Nearly 600 prisoners of all ex-Yugoslav nations ? Serbs, Croats, Bosnians, Slovenes, Macedonians and Montenegrins ? are estimated to have died on the island from torture and disease; thousands suffered psychological damage from an infamous prison system that pitted the prisoners against each other in a battle for survival.

Goli Otok housed up to 16,000 political prisoners over an eight-year period. They ended up there after being accused by Tito's regime of expressing sympathy toward Josef Stalin and his hardline Soviet dictatorship. Tito, who espoused a more liberal brand of communism, broke with Moscow in 1948, earning him support from the West.

Some of the former Serb inmates are threatening to take the government to an international human rights court for what they say is meager compensation for the horrors they went through.

Others say they will reluctantly accept the offer because they have no time to waste on lengthy legal procedures.

"If you were my age, and if you were in bad health, what would you do?" asked 91-year-old Smilja Filipcev, who spent more than three years at Goli Otok as a woman prisoner.

Serbia has now belatedly decided to rehabilitate the victims of Tito's communist regime, including ex-dissidents, royalists and the Goli Otok inmates.

Authorities said they arrived at the $9 a day figure because Croatia had offered a similar sum. But that was 10 years ago when the money was worth much more. Croatia also gave its nationals "privileged" pension status that resulted in a much higher total package than the Serb one.

In 2003, Slovenia offered its ex-prisoners ?6,300 for each year spent on the island. The other former Yugoslav republics ? Montenegro, Bosnia and Macedonia ? have not yet compensated their nationals.

"The fear that we went through is something that should be compensated," said Vulovic, who was incarcerated on the island for nearly three years. "And great fear it was,"

The controversy in Serbia has revived painful memories of the island camp kept secret for decades. Its existence was largely ignored in the West because inmates were thought to be hardline pro-Soviet communists, not dissidents like the ones in the ex-Soviet gulags in Siberia.

Tito was the undisputed leader of Yugoslavia for 35 years until his death in 1980. Those who publicly declared support after the split with Moscow were summarily dispatched to the island, without a trial.

Vulovic, an 85-year-old Serb citizen who was born in Montenegro, said the inmates on Goli Otok had arranged a "welcoming event" for him and the other newcomers.

"They screamed at us yelling 'down with the scum' and beat us with their hands," he said. "At Goli Otok, we had to spy on each other, and we had to beat other inmates up if they ordered us to do so."

"We were beaten all the time, while working, going to breakfast or to lunch," he said, adding that neither the International Red Cross nor any other international humanitarian organization ever visited the island while he was there.

Vulovic said trivial acts could land people in the camp ? which was often compared to San Francisco's Alcatraz island because no one ever managed to escape.

"It was enough for someone to listen to radio Moscow, or privately say something good about Stalin, to be reported to the secret police and end up on the island," Vulovic said at his small Belgrade apartment with Stalin's portrait and the Bible side-by-side on a bookshelf.

"I was arrested when I was 17," Vulovic said. "The reason for my arrest was stupid. Somebody had written 'Down with Tito, long live Stalin' in chalk on the walls all over my neighborhood" in the Montenegrin seaside town of Kotor.

"According to the logic of the time, they thought that only high school students had access to chalk. So they arrested six of us from that neighborhood, and they beat us until we had to confess that we were the ones that had written those words."

In 1956, the island ended its days as a political prison and was turned into a high-security facility for the hardest criminals. Years after Tito's death, Croatia's tourist organization tried to reopen the 1.9-square-mile (3-square-kilometer) island for tourists willing to pay to re-enact the life of a political prisoner ? including hard labor, stale food and nights in solitary confinement.

The plan, which even had the support of some former inmates who offered to work as tour guides, was scrapped because of the protests by Goli Otok political prisoner organizations.

"This is where the infamous Goli Otok lynches started," said former inmate Vladimir Bobinac, 85, while interviewed at the island, describing a lane of prisoners forced to organize welcoming party for new inmates.

"People were badly beaten, some even died," Bobinac said. "They were beaten out of fear. Those who did not deliver the punches were beaten themselves."

Filipcev, who retains an exceptionally clear-mind in her advanced age, said she was sent to Goli Otok from Serbia because she refused to denounce Stalin in his clash with Tito.

"They loaded us onto freight cars, and we were off," she said.

"When we arrived, they opened the car doors and we saw the sea in front of us. They kicked us out of the freight cars, and we waited for a boat to come pick us up. They loaded us into the ship's hull. They didn't wait for us to go down the stairs, they pushed us down, and we fell on top of each other. Some women fainted; some had their legs and arms broken."

She said that on the island, all the prisoners, including women, were forced to hard labor, mostly digging stones in a quarry.

"There we had wooden boards, with handles on each end, used for carrying heavy loads," she said. "You would trip and fall down onto the rocks. If you got injured, they'd make you sit down and break rocks until your injury was better, and then they would put you back to carrying rocks."

She said that when released, she came back home to Serbia.

"At the time when I was arrested, my elder daughter was four years old, and my younger daughter was two, so when they saw me, the first thing they asked was 'Are you really our mother?'"

Online (long-distance) relationships. Can THEY marionette out to ...

Just thinking. Sigh, dear Lord..... one fine day will my princess will she come, and, we will be best of friends, and, caring for one another, deeply, despite our dogged and foxish differences. I will find her and put on her lost glass slipper and I will go to the well and she will be there, finally, God will fill this bucket-boy with love and I will no longer be sleepless (alone) in seattle, I will be with my rose of Sharon, sigh, my fox, with me, a hound...

OH, are you listening, miladies, and, notmydudes ? I guess, hmmm, then, I was 'just saying,' wasn't I? And, saying 'it' outLOUD ! Ah, the reverie of romance, dreamily crept did it just creep...

Ok, I've SNAPPED OUT OF IT , so, let's say you really like a girl online you speak to a lot after having got to know her in a relationship, long distance kind, 1000+ miles seperate she and you.
I did like one girl once online, just for example's sake, I spoke with her in PM (private message) all the time on c.c., for a year straight, back in 2007 and, after a year off, 2008 . But I never would go see her, sure, yes, she invited me, in a roundabout way to see her, I knew a lot of her job and life and we connected.....

....but, and, yes, the Lord leads, I was not willing to go see her 1000+ miles away from me. I, personally, in this 3-year span, was financially up and down, and, that did affect my decision not to go see what happens. The Lord was not making it feel right I only knew her by words too, she sent me her picture but I never opened the file. You got mail ! But, no, never did I open it. Ok, just saying....

If all you have is money, from God's gift to you and a flexible job, would you go from, say, Washington to South Carolina, just to MEET a girl ??

Would 'job,' 'money,' influence your 'true love' for this girl/guy? What about 'family,' 'friends'?

_______
Quick confession, I've said this before but, yes, I did watch reality show, ABC's 'The Bachelorette,' this past season, and, Emily, the girl seeking love started off with around 15 guys, and, through weekly elimination, met, in the end, Jeff, a guy with an infectious smile and a knack for making marionettes dance into 'love.' These twos' relationship was not online, 'course, it was popular reality tv show they met, as shows played out in episodes an hour, or, two long, weekly, for 9 weeks, or, so.

So, in the finale of this season's 'The Bachelorette,' Jeff said 'engaging' words to Emily, like below, very close, but I do paraphrase:

Jeff: I know that sometimes things just are right between two people and where God has put two people together in His time, and, this is one of those times. Will you marry me?

Yes, I know, I'm a dead-on romantic at heart, and, I pray The Lord keeps me following Him as shows like 'The Bachelor(ette) can muddy our thinking and make us think we need some well-off hunk or hunkette, think a 'fantasy suite' is,OK (it's not!) and, generally, can cheapen love. Again, I pray The Lord leads you in all you say and do, and, watch, may 'it' bring glory to Him

So, let's rabbit along here and ask you how far would you go IF you met that one you think COULD BE from God, knowing, like Jeff, that you in Arizona living would be NOW going to Emily's North Carolina town to live BEFORE being married, or, just Jeff moving to Emily's area after two are married. And, by the way, this info of never-married Jeff moving TO hometown of married-once Emily (and her six-year-old daughter, Rikki) was learned in the two's plans , from Jimmy Kimmel Live show last night.

How

far would / will you go to find true love?

And, do you understand the responsibility and potential heartache of that kind of long-distance investment ???

Will you, like Jeff, travel 2000, or so, miles from your work and family to her hometown after meeting her ?
Does the real reality show, now, to YOU, of seriousness of understanding all that ARE online relationships, of them potentially sounding almost as unsexy as the responsibility of a single young lady not choosing to go out with guys because for no other reason than she don't want to chance sex leading to being an unwed.....

....mother. And, that reason, with the Lord leading, is reason enough to be AFRAID of even getting into a long distance online relationship? Sure. That is a very real fear for ladies.

Or, for guys, will you really CHOOSE online love of some distance-girl a long ways from your hometown IF it means potentially leaving friends and family a long ways from you ?

God bless you, all, my Christ peeps, for praying always before/during/after all you do and say in life, and, watch, and, of course, for all you kindleholics out there, what you read.
